Cookley 3 Coventry Utd 1
Well done Girls, after last weeks second half performance, things that was subsequently said, injuries and illness leaving us with firstly 13 players at kick off, reducing down to 11 due to illness, what a result!
Those 11 Girls stood tall and proud, held their shape and gave a disciplined performance.
Rosie, Holly, Alice, Abby, Darcie, Caitlyn, Evie, Jess, Brodie, Shell, Katherine and Tara, while she could, gave their all and in adversity achieved a fantastic result that keeps the challenge up for a possible 3rd place finish.
To achieve such a feat on the back of two semi finals would be clear progress after the massive jump in age group this session to the U18s Premier League.
Brodie and Evie took knocks and had to play through the pain barrier, but, they did so without complaint and giving everything they could.
We defended from the front with Katherine putting in a player of the match performance, winning all the first and second balls, holding the ball up and working incredibly hard for her team mates.
Equally effective was Shell who improved has the game progressed, she also gave her all and was rewarded with a goal.
Darcie returned in defence along with Alice, Abby and Holly and they looked impregnable and formed a solid platform.
With the defence closing the space between midfield it allowed the midfield of Caitlyn, Jess, Brodie and Evie to create and do their job in the opposition half.
It was a stalemate at half time with chances being few and far between, however, second half, the Girls took the game to Coventry and fully deserved the lead after a lovely move which found Caitlyn who struck the ball first time from just outside the box to score in off the post.
An unfortunate error not long after allowed Coventry to break through and slot in an equaliser.
But, the Girls then raised their game, taking the lead again through Shell and finishing the job with Darcie converting a lovely Jess Brett corner.
It was a pleasure to watch the closing 20 minutes has the smiles returned to the Girls faces on a day team spirit was clearly evident and no attitude or dramas were present.
Keep it going let’s finish the season on an high.
