Cookley U18s 6 Sutton United 1

Another wet and miserable morning and a potential cup shock if standards were to drop, however, Cookley cruised through to the semi finals with a empathic 6-1 win.

A few late changes, due to 6 players being unavailable, didn’t impact greatly on the team performance.

Cookley dominated the game, but, it remained 0-0 up and till 30minutes before Evie reverted to centre midfield and Alice and Amy went up top and the goals started to flow.

A great move resulted in Jess breaking the deadlock from long range with a shot clipping the underside of the bar.

Alice slotted home number 2 and Abby popped up again at a corner to make it 3-0 at half time.

Second half and although Sutton scored a consolation mid way through the half Cookley had already extended the lead by a smart well placed finish from Amy.

Alice scored number 5 after great play from the back and a delightful long ball from Jess sent Alice free to round the keeper and complete her brace.

Amy Reynolds completed her second late on and the team win their 4th on the bounce as the season gathers momentum with two semi finals now secured.

Katherine continued her recovery from injury with 60 minutes of football, Abby looked impressive at the centre of defence and Alice looks impressive up front.

Player of the match was Jess Brett for some lovely long range passes, good use of the ball and fantastic strike for the goal.

For all the positives we must improve our passing as too many times in the first half we gave the ball away when not under pressure and will be punished against top quality opposition.

Keep up the good work.
